Departures by Runway
How many aircraft depart KPOU on each runway direction, by month or week on week. Figures are given per day with data as well as as raw totals, so a partial period can be compared against a complete one. The month or week in progress is included and marked.
Direction is what matters for noise. Runway 24 carries the large majority of departures and climbs out to the southwest, over the Village of Wappingers Falls; Runway 6 sends the same traffic northeast towards LaGrange. The crosswind runway, 15/33, is used far less often. The arrows in the diagram show each climb-out direction, coloured to match the chart below.
The diagram shows the KPOU runways and nearby communities in true relative position, north up; the dashed rings mark 1, 2 and 3 miles from the field, and the arrows are the climb-out direction off each runway end, coloured to match the chart.
Spackenkill (1° off the Runway 33 climb-out) and the Village of Wappingers Falls (9° off Runway 24) lie close to squarely under theirs; LaGrange sits 20° north of the Runway 6 path and Myers Corner 34° south of Runway 15, so those two are in the general direction rather than beneath it. Bearings are measured from the field and ignore the turn most departures make after takeoff.
Pavement width is exaggerated — at this scale a 150 ft runway would be well under a pixel — and Runway 15/33 is drawn from its published heading and 3,000 ft length rather than surveyed thresholds.
